SharePoint 2010 Project Tasks List - Dashboard

It is just a coincident I see a requirement for Project Tasks List dashboard on StackExchange which I recently did for my self.

The overall goal is to show tasks progress in fill bar with overall status. The solution is no server side code solution so it can work in all environment. Following is screenshot how it will look like finally:

Here are step by step guide:

1. Create your Project Tasks list

2. Create a new view

(a) Ensure all required columns are included

(b)Ensure all items return in one set and not in batch.

3. Upload XSL file to a document library.

4. Add List WebPart to page

5. Edit List WebPart
(a) Select View that we created

(b) Put XSL file path that has been uploaded to document library

Now you should see similar like this:

I don't know if you still monitor this site but I'm wondering if I can get this to work on a custom list. I'm in a type of site that doesn't have task list available. Thank you.

Yes you can use custom list to apply custom look using XSL. Please ensure the field type and name are same.

Amit, can you share some thought on how to showcase overall tasks completed from multiple Projects on a Dashboard. So if there are 5 Projects and each project has some tasks Completed and InProgress. How to show the the overall no. of task completed and in progress. Please help.

Jason,
In case of multiple projects you need to use CQWP ( Content Query WebPart) to aggregate all project list and use some sort of XSL to get required result.

You can also use Javascript ( preferred if SharePoint 2013) to get this job done.

Hope this information would be helpful.
